Wintering: Claire Cronin and Julia Horter

December 16, 2010 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

December 16, 2010
7 – 9 pm
a Thursday Nights at LACE performance

Settle into the solstice with two poetic music performances by Claire Cronin and Julia Holter. In the last Thursday Night at LACE of the year, both songwriters will delve into the sounds and experiences of December, the holidays, and the deep chill of winter.

Claire Cronin is an artist and songwriter whose work blurs the boundary between psychic and creative processes. She recently composed a series of songs about the objects of strangers at Monte Vista in Highland Park, and has done similar projects at the Hammer Museum and at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative.  Cronin appears as a musician and “performance artist” across Los Angeles.  This fall, she sang and carried a gun in the experimental theatre piece “Annie Okay!” at the Hammer.  She was born in 1985 on the westside, where she continues to live.  In her past life, she was an ascetic in a strict order of Catholic nuns.

Julia Holter‘s homemade recordings and scores consist of instrumental and/or animal sounds, and sung text, as much brand new as they are
borrowed from work anywhere (Burma, Paris, Saturn) and anytime (Middle Ages, ancient Greece, the future). She collaborates frequently with other musicians, writers, visual artists, and puppeteers, in the Los Angeles area and beyond. Discover her work at juliashammasholter.com
