Christine Suarez is
a choreographer, dancer, educator, and art instigator. She loves to
make dances in unusual and unexpected places. Her definition of dance is
broad and welcoming. Using improvisation, sound, and body, participants
in her workshop will collectively create mini-dance events all over the
space.
Suarez is currently collaborating with six dancers building a guerilla-style dance that will travel to different parks in Los Angeles. Her choreography has been presented at various venues including Anatomy Riot, REDCAT, and Highways Performance Space in Los Angeles and P.S. 122, Dancespace Project and HERE in New York. She has been awarded grants from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Puffin Foundation, Meet the Composer, JP Morgan Chase Regrant, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. She received an MFA in choreography from UCLA's World Arts and Cultures Department.
