Native Strategies Launch Party

August 11, 2011 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

11 August 2011, 7 – 9 pm
A Thursday Night at LACE program

Native Strategies is a new experimental platform and journal for performance art in Los Angeles. Initiated by Brian Getnick, Zemula Barr, and Molly Sullivan, each issue will be released following a series of performances curated around themes, strategies and ideas present in the work of Los Angeles based performance artists. Over the course of five years, the interviews, essays, reviews, drawings and photo documentation from each issue will be compiled into a book.

LACE presents the Native Strategies Launch party featuring surprise dance performance by Jmy James Kidd from Pieter Performance Art Space along with a video presentation of the first series, So Funny It Hurts. Over the course of four nights in March and April, audiences were treated (and terrorized) by performances at LACE that were darkly funny, deeply personal and politically charged. This series presented the tragicomedy of artists Asher Hartman,Curt Lemieux, Paul Outlaw, Alice Cunt, Kale Likover, Lauren Weedman, and Nathan Bockelman. Designed by Molly Sullivan, the journal contains interviews with each of the artists, photos of the shows, and essays by Hans Kuzmich and Zemula Barr.

The inaugural copies of this limited-print journal will be available for purchase at this party and performance event.
