LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ARCHIVE
The LACE archive represents a crucial site of cultural history for Southern California. Since its inception in 1978, LACE has been central to the visual and performing arts in Los Angeles. The archives ensure the preservation and availability of an unbroken thirty-year record of this influential art space. Many of the historically significant ephemeral practices presented at LACE now only exist as writings, photographic documents, and videotapes. The archives present an irreplaceable collection of these works. These archives make all aspects of LACE history available to artists, curators, and historians, including the conceptual and financial battles the visionary art space has endured. The archives also ensure that the work of current artists will remain part of a rich historical record. The LACE archives can be found both online and in the comprehensive on-site library. Upon exploring the digital archive, LACE welcomes the public to schedule a visit to the archive room. The archives make the history of LACE accessible to the public and link the organization’s rich past with a vibrant future. Contact us at info (at) welcometolace.org with information on your research project and to schedule an in-person appointment to access the archive.
