LACE’s apprenticeship program is a proven pipeline for emerging cultural workers in Los Angeles. As part of the organization’s commitment to artists, curators, and cultural workers, LACE has a long history of mentoring the next generation of arts workers in Los Angeles. Our apprenticeship program was founded at the onset of the organization, and alumni of the program have gone on to prestigious positions at museums and arts organizations across the city including the Getty, LACMA, MOCA, the Fowler Museum, the Broad Museum, 18th Street Art Center, Armory Center for the Arts, and Arts for LA, as well as commercial galleries including Gemini G.E.L., Regen Projects, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, and more.
More recently, LACE has expanded the apprenticeship program to include a postgraduate fellowship for individuals who have completed their graduate degrees in art, art history, museum studies, or other related fields. Fellowships are research-based and projects range from curatorial, archival, publications, and more.

Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program – CURRENTLY CLOSED
The goal of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program is to expose college students from backgrounds that have been underrepresented in the arts to careers in museums and visual arts organizations. The program offers full-time paid internships over the summer in core areas of museum work such as curatorship, conservation, education, publications, and public programming. LACE has served as a host organization for Getty Marrow Interns since 1996. Learn more here.
UPDATE: Deadline extended! Applications will be accepted until Sunday, April 7, 2024. We strongly encourage applicants to check out this infographic: Tips for preparing a strong internship application 2024.
Available positions:
Getty Marrow Communications and Media Internship
The Getty Marrow Communications and Media Intern is responsible for creating a unique online presence for the organization under the supervision of LACE staff. The intern will gain experience in creating social media campaigns (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter), coordinating the organization’s print and digital marketing efforts, managing all press and academic inquiries, conducting community outreach to student groups, press, and interested audiences, and producing original content with an emphasis on marketing and implementation. The intern will assist in researching and updating the LACE Digital Archive when needed, and surfacing past programs and exhibitions, providing archival, educational, and artistic content to LACE’s newer audiences and community members via the website and social media, as well as prepare new branding materials for the LACE Benefit Art Auction scheduled for fall 2024. This internship is for a student who is interested in learning about digital technologies, media and video production, digital communications, and marketing in a non-profit visual arts organization, and has basic knowledge of design and/or video production.
Internship hours are Monday through Friday, 10AM–6PM, with occasional weekend hours for events and programs as needed.
Getty Marrow Curatorial and Programming Internship
The Getty Marrow Curatorial and Programming Intern will work closely with the Curator and Director of Programming, Selene Preciado, and the Assistant Director of Programming, Juan Silverio, in executing a wide range of programming activities—from managing logistics for events and public programs, to research and development for upcoming exhibitions. The intern will assist with the coordination of the LACE Screening Room Series, research for the 2025 exhibitions Circuits of Correspondence and Poetics of Possibilities, and develop a virtual exhibition using the LACE digital archive, among other daily tasks. The intern will gain experience in interdisciplinary curatorial research and writing, artist relations, public programming, and art handling and installation, among other skills. This internship is for a student who is interested in learning about the curatorial process and wants to develop administrative and exhibition production skills with critically engaged, exploratory, and community-responsive artists.
Internship hours are Monday through Friday, 10AM–6PM, with occasional weekend hours for events and programs as needed.
How to Apply
To apply, submit your one page résumé, cover letter, and a list of two professional references, merged into a single PDF file, sent to apply@welcometolace.org with the subject line “Getty MUI Communications and Media Internship” or “Getty MUI Curatorial and Programming Internship.” The PDF file name should follow this format: “LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_GMUI24.”
Eligibility
While these internships are intended for students from backgrounds underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions, Getty encourages eligible candidates from all backgrounds to apply for consideration. Getty is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any protected trait under the law. Candidates are sought from all areas of undergraduate study at any higher education institution—community college, trade school, and public and private university—and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.
Applicants must:
- Be a member of a group underrepresented in careers related to art conservation, museums, and/or visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by – among other things – socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.
- Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
- Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and
- Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a “green card” holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.
- Note: Students can participate in the program multiple times but must intern at a different organization each summer.

ArtTable – CURRENTLY CLOSED

This impactful program provides quality real work experiences and mentorship to women-identifying and non-binary emerging professionals from backgrounds generally underrepresented in the visual arts field. During the paid, five-to-eight-week summer program, the fellows will work closely with established leaders in the field to gain exposure to a range of professional activities at leading museums and art organizations. They also receive one-on-one mentoring from leading professionals who are ArtTable members and are specialized in their areas of interest.
The program is open to women-identifying and non-binary emerging professionals who self-identify as being from cultural, racial, ethnic, and/or socio-economic backgrounds underrepresented in the field. Individuals from LGBTQ2S+ and/or disability communities are encouraged to apply. Learn more here.
