After an exhibition tour of Excavación del presente / A Tender Excavation with LACE’s Curator and Director of Programs, Selene Preciado, artist Star Montana will offer free individual, family, and group portraits for participants’ personal and family archives. Participants will receive a printed photograph on site and an optional digital copy.

This program builds on her previous collaborations including Meet Me at the Park (2024) in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, a photography pop-up event at Hollenbeck Park in Boyle Heights, which offered free family photography sessions and individual portraits to the community; and Meet Me at the Museum (2025), which took place at the Art, Design & Architecture Museum in Santa Barbara, CA. This new iteration will take place at CECUT in Tijuana as part of LACE’s current exhibition, Excavación del presente / A Tender Excavation, on view until August 30, 2026.

Excavación del presente / A Tender Excavation approaches research-based artistic practices through propositions of alternative histories, bringing together a group of artists who work with historical and familial photographic archives as a point of departure to construct new narratives and elicit transformation. Artists featured in the exhibition include Zeynep Abes, Susu Attar, Jamil G Baldwin, Mely Barragán, Artemisa Clark, Arleene Correa Valencia, Mercedes Dorame, Prima Jalichandra-Sakuntabhai, Leah King, Tarrah Krajnak, Heesoo Kwon, Ann Le, Arlene Mejorado, Star Montana, and Camille Wong. Learn more about the exhibition here.
