LACE is holding its 38th annual Benefit Art Auction, LACE: Now More Than Ever on Wednesday, May 10^th at Vibiana in Historic Downtown Los Angeles with a special reception by celebrity chef Neal Fraser’s Redbird. In recognition that our cultural, social and political landscape has changed dramatically, LACE’s mission of breaking boundaries, advancing experimentation, and giving voice to otherwise marginalized voices in art has never been more urgent.

John Fleck is an actor and performance artist who became known as one of the NEA 4 during the ’90’s culture wars’ when he and 3 other performance artists were denied funding by the National Endowment for the Arts because of religious and political pressure. The case made its way to the Supreme Court where the grant money was restored to the artists but the NEA under pressure from Congress stopping funding individual artists. Today in 2017 the battle rages on with the Trump administration threatening to eliminate the entire NEA. Fleck continues to create new work. His latest piece BLACKTOP HIGHWAY premiered @ REDCAT / LA in 2015 and received critical acclaim in NYC @ Dixon Place this past November. Other award winning pieces include: Mad Women, Nothin’ Beats Pussy, Blessed are all the Little Fishes, Psycho Opera and A Snowball’s Chance in Hell which was workshopped @ LACE in 1993.
