In the 8th century BCE, the 10 tribes of Israel were conquered by the Assyrian Empire and vanished to history. In the millennia since, many peoples the world over have claimed to be, or have been identified as, one of these lost tribes. In our next piece, we examine the fluidity of identity: what is it to be claimed, and what is it to claim a tribe as your own?
lost tribes will incorporate lyrical language, original musical composition, and stylized movement to explore stories connected with the lost tribes of Israel, investigating questions of artistic expression, belonging, equal treatment, integration, appropriation, and assimilation in our world today.
