Thank you to everyone who attended “ENDURANCE” Thank you to everyone who attended “ENDURANCE” this past Friday and Saturday, May 16–17. Held over two nights at L.A. Dance Project, “ENDURANCE” showcased re-stagings and new commissions by legacy performance, dance, and literary artists. Pictured here is Awilda Sterling-Duprey (@awildasterling) performing “Makandal es la consigna / Makandal Is the Call to Action” (2025). The performance draws from the myth of François Mackandal, the 18th-century Haitian revolutionary who, after being captured and burned alive, vanished without a trace and became a symbol of resistance.

“ENDURANCE” featured performances by artists including Gloria Enedina Álvarez (@gloriaenedinalvarez), Kamau Daáood, Anna Homler, Jeff Schwartz, and David Javelosa, Ulysses Jenkins and his band “Who Dat!,” Juanita and Juan (@alice_bag + @kidcongopowers), Sharon Kagan (@sharonkagan), Hirokazu Kosaka, Oguri, Sheree Rose (@msrosebush), Barbara T. Smith, The Dark Bob, and Awilda Sterling-Duprey. The program also featured films by Eiko Otake (@eiko_otake), Joan Jonas (@broadcove), and Marnie Weber (@marnieweberstudio).

“ENDURANCE” was curated by Selene Preciado (@selene__preciado), LACE Curator and Director of Programs. Photos by Ray Barrera (@dreamfishcommuter).
