ARE YOU OUR NEXT CURATOR?

LACE POSITION NOW OPEN: CURATOR AND DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING 

LACE is seeking a new Curator and Director of Programming to join the team at an exciting time in the organization’s trajectory. The newly-renovated gallery and offices are scheduled to relaunch in early 2024 and the new Curator will play a critical role in the future of LACE.

The Curator and Director of Programming is a key member of the LACE team of four and reports directly to the Executive Director. This position is full-time and focuses on creating and managing exhibitions and events, researching project funding, and contributing to the overall operation and visibility of the organization.  

JOB DUTIES

  • Direct overall programming with a specific curatorial vision that aligns LACE’s history with a new vision of contemporary art practices 
  • Supervise and direct all communications and marketing materials with LACE staff, artists, guest curators, and presenters
  • Curate or recommend projects as calendar and budget allow – including storefront, main gallery, and potential off-site collaborations, as well as screenings and performances
  • Curate publications for the LACE bookstore
  • Manage budgets for exhibitions, events, and publications
  • Manage artist and curator invoices and payments
  • Research grant and project funding opportunities, write proposals and reports 
  • Assist in personalized press outreach and marketing of projects
  • Support Executive Director in the execution of LACE Benefit Art Auction and coordinate artist participation 
  • Advise curators from the Emerging Curators program and other potential guest curators
  • Assist Executive Director in management of LACE team including Assistant Director of Programming, Communications Coordinator, and other potential contractors and consultants 
  • Mentor interns through the Getty Marrow Internship Program and LACE Apprenticeship Program
  • Be an ambassador – communicate LACE’s artistic and programmatic vision to audiences through events, programming, meetings, online and print material
  • Maintain relationships with artists, fellow arts organizations, foundations, patrons, curators, and other colleagues to create collaborations and highlight LACE’s visibility and standing
  • Work on other projects as assigned by the Executive Director 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • Passion for contemporary arts and visual culture
  • Strong knowledge of Los Angeles artists and art scene essential, and familiarity with national and international artists a plus
  • Experience curating and organizing visual exhibitions and programs
  • Exceptional writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Management and/or related fields of study
  • Adaptability and excellent creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • MAC OS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and database management 

COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience, four weeks paid vacation, Kaiser insurance offered
