Sayak Valencia, activista Tijuanense, critora,artista de performance, y autora del libro Capitalismo Gore en conversación con la curadora de LACE Daniela Lieja Quintanar y las artistas Carolina Caycedo, Arshia Fatima Haq, y Mónica Rodríguez. Después de  la charla se presentará el performance Knots de Patrisse Cullors, artista, organizadora, educadora, y oradora pública.. Cullors es originaria de Los Ángeles, California; cofundadora de Black Lives Matter Global Network, así como fundadora de la organización Dignity and Power Now en LA    

Knots, es un performance que utiliza cuerda y tela azul, en honor a Nipsey Hussle. Esta obra explorará el impacto profundo que Nipsey tuvo en Los Ángeles, y el papel que tomó, apoyando a miles de miembros de la comunidad de South Central, LA.  A través de acción, movimiento y audio, este performance interdisciplinario da tributo a uno de lo más grandes activista y artista de hip hop de esta generación.

Bios
Patrisse Cullors (Los Ángeles, 1984) Artista, organizadora, educadora y oradora pública, Patrisse Cullors es originaria de Los Ángeles, California; cofundadora de Black Lives Matter Global Network, así como fundadora de la organización Dignity and Power Now en LA. En 2013, Patrisse cofundó el movimiento global con el hashtag viral en Twitter #BlackLivesMatter, que desde entonces ha crecido hasta convertirse en una organización internacional que lucha contra el racismo contra los negros. En enero de 2016, Cullors publicó When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir (Cuando te llaman terrorista: una biografía de Black Lives Matter). El New York Times lo incluyó en su lista de Bestseller. Patrisse ha sido galardonada con varios premios, entre ellos: The Sydney Peace Prize Award (2017); Black Woman of the Year Award (2015); The National Congress of Black Women la nombró Líder de los Derechos Civiles para el 21st Century Award (2015); el diario Los Ángeles. Times, le otorgó el Premio al Agente de Cambio Comunitario (2016); BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc., recibió el Premio Mujeres del Año a los Buscadores de Justicia (2016) y de Glamour, y ESSENCE’ el first-ever Woke Award. Patrisse es actualmente candidata 2019 para un MFA en la Universidad del Sur de California.

Sayak Valencia (Tijuana, 1980). Doctora en Filosofía, Teoría y Crítica Feminista por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Valencia ess profesora en el Departamento de Estudios Culturales del Colegio de la Frontera Norte. Poeta, ensayista y exhibicionista performática. Ha dictado conferencias y seminarios sobre Capitalismo Gore, transfeminismos, feminismo chicano, feminismo poscolonial, arte y teoría queer en diversas universidades de Europa y América. Ha publicado los libros: Gore Capitalism, MIT/Semiotext(e), 2018), Capitalismo Gore (Paidós, 2016 y Melusina, Barcelona, 2010), Adrift´s Book (Aristas Martínez, Badajoz, 2012).  El reverso exacto del texto (Centaurea Nigra Ediciones, Madrid 2007), Jueves Fausto (Ediciones de la Esquina / Anortecer, Tijuana 2004), así como diversos artículos académicos, ensayos y poemas en revistas de Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Chile, México, España, Alemania, Francia, Polonia y los Estados Unidos.

“This Home, Forever,” curated by 2025 LACE Emerging Curator Nahui Garcia (@_nahui) is a two-day performance series which sparked thoughts about the potential erosion of LA’s diverse and vibrant urban ecosystem against the backdrop of gentrification. This program featured performances by: 011668 (@0ll668), Perras Bravas (@perras.bravas), Los Angeles Poverty Department (@lapovertydepartment), Michele Lorusso (@michelelorusso), Pacoima Techno (@pacoimatechno), and Jaklin Romine (@jakioeoeo), held at Heidi Duckler Dance (@heididucklerla) on the rooftop of the historic Bendix Building on June 7 and 8, 2025.

⚡️LACE is launching our next round of applicat ⚡️LACE is launching our next round of applications for the 2026 Lightning Fund and Jacki Apple Award on August 15, 2025.⚡️

This year, LACE will award 10 artist project grants $6,000 each and one $10,000 grant to a mid- or advance-career artist.

To support applicants, LACE is offering a virtual information session on July 31 at 1PM PDT, on Zoom. This session will include an overview of the Lightning Fund and Jacki Apple Award eligibility guidelines, application platform tips, as well as an opportunity to ask questions. This session is open to anyone interested in applying to this year’s Lightning Fund and Jacki Apple Award, and will be recorded and posted on our website.

This Saturday, the LACE Screening Room presents, “Obsidian Reflections” from 2–5 PM at the Philosophical Research Society (@philosophical_research_society).

This film program is followed by a musical performance with multimedia NeoCumbia artist El Keamo (@el_keamo). El Keamo is the alias of Alfredo González-Martínez, a first-generation Mexican-American multimedia artist from Reseda, California. With an innovative blend of cumbia sonidera, tribal, house, and acid genres, El Keamo’s Neocumbia project is a modern interpretation of traditional Latin rhythms fused with electronic synthesis, creating a unique sound that is both familiar and boldly avant-garde.

"ENDURANCE" presented performance art and interdisciplinary work by elder artists. These artists use their practices to share wisdom, knowledge, and experiences that they have gained throughout their lives. This series is a companion program to LACE’s 2024 performance series, "ABUNDANCE," both featuring often invisibilized bodies.

This program was held at L.A. Dance Project from May 16–17, 2025.

The online presentation of "ENDURANCE" is supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles (@culture_la).
